Basic Verb Conjugation

Korean verbs conjugate based on the stem vowel: Rule 1: If the stem has ㅏ or ㅗ → add 아요 • 가다 (go) → 가 + 아요 → 가요 • 오다 (come) → 오 + 아요 → 와요 (contraction) Rule 2: Otherwise → add 어요 • 먹다 (eat) → 먹 + 어요 → 먹어요 • 마시다 (drink) → 마시 + 어요 → 마셔요 (ㅣ+ㅓ=ㅕ) Rule 3: 하다 verbs → 해요 • 하다 (do) → 해요 • 공부하다 (study) → 공부해요
