N + 은 (after consonant) | N + 는 (after vowel)
은/는 marks the TOPIC of a sentence - what you're talking about. • 은 is used after consonants: 책은, 사람은 • 는 is used after vowels: 나는, 저는, 차는 The topic is often (but not always) the subject. It sets the context: "As for X..." or "Speaking of X..." Common uses: • Introducing yourself: 저는 학생이에요 (As for me, I'm a student) • Contrasting: 저는 학생이에요. 친구는 선생님이에요. (I'm a student. My friend is a teacher.)
